The Danish foundation

Scandinavian Tobacco Group was formed in 1961 when three of the old, family owned tobacco companies (C.W. Obel in Aalborg, R. Færch in Holstebro and Chr. Augustinus Fabrikker in Copenhagen) joined forces and established the biggest tobacco company in Denmark.

In 1972, British American Tobacco was fusioned into Scandinavian Tobacco Group and a few years later, they gathered their cigarette production at Tobaksvejen in Søborg, Denmark. This location remained the headoffice of House of Prince until February 2011.

The historic past shows, that British American Tobacco Group has been present in House of Prince long before the actual aquisition in 2008.

Throughout many years, House of Prince has been the only cigarette producer in Denmark with the brand "Prince" as the most dominant brand in the Danish market. The production site in Denmark was closed in november 2010 and the cigarettes for the Danish market are now produced in various factories around Europe.

British American Tobaccos history

The business was formed in 1902, as a joint venture between the UK’s Imperial Tobacco Company and the American Tobacco Company founded by James ‘Buck’ Duke.

Despite its name, derived from the home bases of its two founding companies, British American Tobacco was established to trade outside both the UK and the USA, and grew from its roots in dozens of countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and continental Europe.

We were ‘born international’, and have developed over a century’s expertise in operating locally in diverse cultures around the world.
