The Department

The Maersk Oil Exploration Department in Copenhagen is responsible for global New Ventures and exploration activity in Angola, Denmark, Algeria, Qatar, Oman, Kazakhstan and Greenland, There is also a close working relationship with other exploration offices in Aberdeen (UK), Stavanger (Norway) and Houston, USA.

Successful Candidates will primarily be responsible for:

-Identification and mapping of leads and prospects for drilling opportunities:-involving quantification of prospect volumetrics and risking, forming the basis for engineering analysis/economics and well proposals.

-Supporting exploration License team in the interface to specialist processing and QI geophysics team to advance License portfolio maturation through optimal seismic products.

Job Requirements:

A geoscience degree and post-graduate qualification (Masters or PhD) plus 7-15 years of oil and gas industry experience with a strong background in seismic interpretation, preferably with an medium-large international Operator or seismic contractor.

Extensive experience with 2D and 3D seismic interpretation.Experience with PSDM workflows in areas of complex geology is mandatory for this position. The candidate is also expected to have a firm understanding of qualitative and quantitative seismic attribute analysis, with an ability to liaise closely with more specialist geophysical support where necessary.

Although with a strong geophysical anchor as the basis of seismic interpretation and imaging of various datasets the candidate should possess knowledge of sequence and seismic stratigraphy, depositional systems, structural geology and basin modeling in order to work in an integrated fashion as an asset based explorationist within a strong team environment. Integration and liaison with company experts in these fields is fundamental in this position.

Knowledge of South Atlantic petroleum systems both post and pre-salt will be advantageous.

Knowledge of probabilistic resource assessment (preferably GeoX) and risking will also be an advantage, and the interpreter will be responsible for volumetric inputs. The standard exploration interpretation software is the Landmark suite, particularly Seisworks/Powerview, and the 3D visualization package Geoprobe. Petrel is also widely used and integrated throughout the department.

The right candidate for the position is an enthusiastic and strong team player with good communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate others both within and without the team.Technical leadership and a strong focus on geoscience excellence are crucial for this role, as will the ability to coach and mentor less experienced staff.The working language in the office is English and the successful candidate must speak and write English fluently.
